"The Monograph University of Montenegro 1974-2024 provides reliable and systematized data on the origins, development, work, and organization of the only state university, tracing all its changes through a half-century of existence," said Prof. Dr. Rajka Glušica, a member of the Editorial Board, at the promotion of the Monograph which gathered the academic community tonight in amphitheater 106 of the UCG technical faculties building.

"With over 300 pages, the Monograph through numerous data and photographs offers a complete picture of the state of the University at all stages of its development, as well as a reminder of the significant people, university professors, students, and events that crucially influenced the fate of the University. The Monograph represents a seminal work that will be the foundation of all future research about the most significant educational, scientific, and artistic institution in Montenegro," Professor Glušica stated.

Members of the Editorial Board who were active participants in creating this edition over the past year spoke at the promotion.

Prof. Dr. Ljubiša Stanković, the chairman of the Editorial Board of the Monograph, emphasized, "The 50th anniversary of the University of Montenegro is undoubtedly the most significant event in the country this year."

"The Monograph we are promoting was written to record and save from oblivion many important events from the half-century life of the University of Montenegro, related to its founding, development, organization, reforms, to highlight exemplary examples and achievements, as well as its special social mission in the development of Montenegro and the re-establishment of its, with minor historical interruptions, thousand-year statehood," explained Professor Stanković.

"The University of Montenegro, as the only state university, and until recently the only higher education institution in Montenegro, holds a great social responsibility to provide all citizens of Montenegro who wish to pursue higher education, who wish to continuously learn and expand their knowledge, with the ability to achieve this at the highest level within Montenegro. People and knowledge are the greatest potential and the best investment in the future of a society and a state," assessed Stanković.

The Monograph also documents the importance of the Universitys organizational units which have positioned themselves on the academic map of Europe through teaching, research, and project activities.

"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come. With the maturation and needs of the times and society, 27 years ago, the Faculty of Medicine at UCG was founded and began its operations," highlighted Prof. Dr. Miodrag Radunović, dean of the faculty, at the promotion.

"With strong staff and focused on science, we walk unitedly, creating a vision of the future for students based on humanity," said Radunović while presenting the programs of the Faculty of Medicine. With over three thousand graduated students and continuous development of infrastructure, the Faculty, he believes, is constantly evolving. "By introducing specializations in all branches of medicine with the support of professors from eminent faculties in the region, we will enable quality education and knowledge transfer, thus retaining young colleagues in Montenegro. Conditions are being created for them to achieve their ambitions within the country with quality valorization of their work."

In addition to the scientific research and educational aspects, the Monograph documents aspects of the evolution of the cultural and artistic life of our country, which, according to Prof. Dr. Nikola Vukčević, is clearly divided into the period "before and after the establishment of academic institutions for educating artists in Montenegro."

"With the establishment of the Music Academy, the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje - there has been a fundamental impulse for the development and further differentiation of artistic disciplines and educational profiles, and the creation of various complementary activities. The quality of education that these institutions offer today in a range of artistic disciplines stands out with decades of experience, development of methods, international interaction, and multidimensional communication with artistic practice, and - these institutions undoubtedly play a key role in forming the entire cultural scene of Montenegro," stated Vukčević.

Prof. Dr. Sonja Tomović-Šundić concluded that since its founding in 1974, the University has been "a nexus of knowledge and science, an academic community of lecturers and students, a password of our enlightenment, without which it is impossible to speak of the spiritual and cultural, but also political and economic development of Montenegro. This Monograph is a synthesis of its developmental path and maturation into a respectable institution, an effort to provide as comprehensive an overview as possible and valorize the most significant processes and their participants who have marked its half-century existence. With the intention of pointing out the main directions of its strategic actions in the 21st century."

The event was moderated by Ksenija Rakočević, MA.
