About the Faculty

Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology was set up on 28th of  March 1973 as a department at the Technical Faculty in Podgorica.

On the Department of Metallurgy within the  Technical faculty in Podgorica, first students were enrolled in academic year 1973/74. Within the massive  reorganization of the Technical faculty, in 1978, Department of Metallurgy became an independent institution called Faculty of Metallurgy.

In 1992, the Faculty of Metallurgy became an independent university unit within the public Institution University of Montenegro. Within the Faculty of Metallurgy, in study 1990/91, the new study programme of Inorganic technology has been established. Therefore, Faculty has consequently changed its name to Faculty of  Metallurgy and Technology in 1995. Within the Faculty, new study programme of applied studies in the field of Environmental protection was established in study  2005/06.

The recent reform of the curricula, introduced some changes so our educational offerings will have three study programs, from study 2017/18 on: Metallurgy and Materials, Chemical Technology and Environmental Protection. Diplomas acquired at academic and applied programs are stipulated by the Law on Higher Education.

Today, Faculty has  14 full professors, 4 associate professors and 3 assistant professors as well as teaching assistants, technical staff and administrative staff.

Since its establishment, the MTF has gained nearly 1000 graduate diploma in engineering: bachelors, specialist, masters, doctorates. The success of the Faculty in the field of scientific research is reflected in the large number of defended master's and doctoral theses in the period of 23 years of these studies.

Special attention during the almost 45 years, was paid to cooperation with industry, higher education institutions and scientific research institutes. During the 80's and 90's of the last century, Faculty  was one of the major drivers of research in the field of aluminum and steel. We try to put it on this place again.

Recently Faculty has performed a large number of projects (scientific research projects, professional projects, great number of projects within  bilateral cooperation, TEMPUS projects, few  COST actions, IPA, EUREKA projects)

Concerning the high  number of papers in SCI-indexed journals, the Faculty is highly ranked at the University of Montenegro scientific contribution.
