Learning outcomes:

    I Medical doctor (MD) is qualified (competent):
  1. Clinical skills: To gather anamnestic data from the patients, their relatives and companions, individually examine patients and compile an adequate plan of further activities.
  2. Practical procedures: To conduct various practical procedures, in diagnostic and therapeutic purposes: measurement of different clinical parameters; dosing, preparation and application of therapy; cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adult patients and children; wound treatment and immobilization; taking samples, placement of the venous path, probes and catheters.
  3. Medical tests: To compile a plan of examinations (laboratory, radiological and clinical) to define the medical problem in question and come up to proper diagnose of the disease; to analyze and interpret acquired data from anamnesis, clinical examination and performed tests, to make an adequate diagnosis using a holistic approach .
  4. Treatment: To formulate and determine a primary therapy plan for each patient category (emergency, acute, chronic, surgical, trauma, palliative, pediatric), to apply therapy, refer to a consultant and further treatment, to follow and asses the course of the disease and the effects of therapy, including side effects.
  5. Promotion of health: To apply the principles of improvement and promotion of health as well as prevention of the diseases; is competent to recognize individual and population risk and to protect the individuals.
  6. Communication skills: To possess developed communication skills in contact with patients and their family, colleagues, other medical staff, police and judicial authorities, as well as media; to know how to protect and promote the rights of the patient; is able to participate as a part of the team and teach others.
  7. Medical documentation and informatics: To competently maintain the necessary medical documentation (in paper and electronic form), to form a doctor’s report with diagnosis and therapy, code and classify diseases and medical interventions, report conditions stipulated by law, submit periodic reports, uses literature, common computer operating systems and English language.
II Medical doctor (MD) has basic knowledge that enables him to act competently:
  1. Possesses knowledge about the structure and function as well as about disorders of the structure and function of the human organism as a whole and individual organs and organ systems, the causes of diseases, the behavior of healthy and sick individuals, natural, psychological and social aspects of health and disease of individuals and the population, and the influence of the social environment on individual’s health.
  2. Knows ethical and bioethical principles, doctor’s responsibilities regarding treatment, prescribing medicines, medical errors, death, clinical studies, patient’s rights, cultural and religious differences. MD implements a holistic approach in the treatment of patients, respect the patient’s rights and involves him/her in making decisions about the health, respects colleagues and medical institutions.
  3. Possesses clinical thinking and decision-making skills: problem setting, prioritization, application of evidence-based medicine, research design and statistical evaluation and conclusion.
III Professional activities of the medical doctor (MD):
  1. Knows the role and responsibilities of a medical doctor in health and educational system, in research work, in academic and social community, and is ready to devote himself/herself to medical practice.
  2. Is aware of his/hers competencies and the need for the continuous critical review and improvement of knowledge and skills, through further specialist training and continuous medical education.
