Profile of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical department of the Technical Faculty in Podgorica, a predecessor of today’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was founded in 1970 and transformed into an independent faculty of the University of Montenegro in 1978. It is the only faculty from this field in the country. During its history this faculty gave enormous contribution to the industrial development of Montenegro while in the current times it creates professionals who are crucially important for entrepreneurship development, manufacturing, energy, IT sectors but also for the maintenance of all the machine systems and facilities in the country. Profiles of the mechanical engineers are continuously in demand both on the local and global labour markets.

Teaching process at the academic bachelor, master and doctoral studies is realized by the study model 3+2+3. Bachelor academic studies carry 180 ECTS, master academic 120 ECTS, and doctoral studies 180 ECTS credits.

I – Study programmes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Three bachelor academic study programmes are realized at the Faculty: 1. Mechanical Engineering; 2. Road Traffic; 3. Mechatronics, with significant number of modules which enable flexibility to the students and possibility to follow their own interests. The modules include: Energy, Production Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Mechanical Design (programme Mechanical Engineering); Traffic, Transport (programme Road Traffic); Mechatronic Machines, Industrial Automation and Control (programme Mechatronics)

Five academic master study programmes are realized at the Faculty: 1. Mechanical Engineering; 2. Road Traffic; 3. Mechatronics; 4. Energy Efficiency; 5. Quality and Standardisation. The last three are interdisciplinary programmes conducted jointly with the Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Natural Sciences and Faculty for Tourism and Hotel Management of the University of Montenegro.

Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are realized at the study programme Mechanical Engineering.

II – Services for business and community

Apart from educational and research missions, the faculty realizes also a “third mission” by offering a wide range of services to the society – primarily to the state institutions and businesses. Among the services for the society there are the works on designing and constructing machine elements and systems; homologation, assessment and attesting of road vehicles, their machines and equipment; assessment of measurement tools in road traffic; development of quality system infrastructure in Montenegro; expertise in solving problems of breaks or deformations of transport machines and metal structures; projects of conservation and repair of bridges, energy production plants and communal pipes; projects on environmental protection in certain municipalities; contribution to the development of legislation for energy efficiency and accompanying software for energy management; measurements in energy production, processing techniques, in heating, cooling and air conditioning systems; education and vocational trainings in the fields of energy, road traffic, engineering design, quality and many others.
